A little more about us...

Hey, we don't pretend to be expert farmers and we certainly have never expected miracles.  Yet everything we've done and experienced since we began Hawk & Hen Farmstead seems miraculous to us.

In 2023, we left the comforts of city life to embark on a dream of owning land and livestock.  We also set our sights on homeschooling our three children and becoming more self-sufficient.  With a dream bigger than ourselves we took the leap of faith and landed in rural Iowa.  Funny enough, now we tell our children that we are homeschooled as much as they are!  Together in a short span of time our whole family has learned to grow a vegetable garden, compost, build fences, raise animals and the list goes on.

Our hens now produce many more eggs than our family can consume and this is why we are able to share this abundance.  Our tea garden is also expanding every year and allowing us to explore new ways of enjoying something that's always been a reliable comfort for my husband and me.  We raise a modest amount of pork and beef for our family's needs but have not yet ruled out expanding that offering to the public at a later date.  Little by little, our goal is to enjoy life by rolling up our sleeves, getting our hands dirty, learning from our mistakes, and to not take life too seriously.
